ACO2 ACO2 connects the next generation of talented young Australian musicians with the stars of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, creating a combined ensemble with a fresh, energetic performance style. In this concert, ACO2 performs some of the best music for string orchestra from the Baroque, Romantic and contemporary eras. Bach’s sprightly Brandenburg Concerto No.3 is one of the most popular pieces in classical music. Handel’s Concerto Grosso is in the grand Baroque style. Dvořák’s Serenade, full of flowing melodies and wistful waltzes, is a delight. Meale’s Cantilena features a long, lyrical line for solo violin.

    15. Raymond Crowe Australia's only Unusualist - Launceston Raymond Crowe is Australia’s only Unusualist. For those not in the know an Unusualist is a master of intricate shadow puppetry, dancing jackets, ventriloquism, world class magic and brilliant audience participation. His signature piece ‘The Shadows’ has become an internet phenomenon with over one million hits worldwide and features his astounding and intricate hand shadows to the Louis Armstrong classic ‘What a Wonderful World’.
    16. Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica - Launceston What do a classical musician and retired country and western singer have in common? Not a lot according to Monica who really just wants Gary, aka Rhinestone Rex, to do the job he's being paid for and renovate her kitchen. William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream A Midsummer Nights' Dream is a complex contraption that involves two couples (Hermia & Lysander and Helene & Demetrius) whose romantic cross-purposes are complicated further by their entrance into the play's fairyland woods. This is where the King and Queen of the Fairies (Oberon and Titania) preside and the impish folk character of Puck, or Robin Goodfellow, plies his trade. Another set of characters, Bottom the weaver and his bumptious band of "rude mechanicals" stumble into the main doings when they go into the same enchanted woods to rehearse a play that is very loosely (and comically) based on the myth of Pyramus and Thisbe, their hilarious home-spun piece taking up Act V of Shakespeare's comedy.

Hawthorn v Freemantle - AFL There is nothing as exciting as a live game of football played at the top level, with superb athletes battling it out for the ultimate prize of the right to play in the AFL Grand Final. In Round 8, Hawthorn meets the Freemantle Dockers in Launceston. Hawthorn will be hoping for a repeat of their performance when they last met the Dockers and won by 51 points.
    3. Hawthorn v North Melbourne - AFL There is nothing as exciting as a live game of football played at the top level, with superb athletes battling it out for the ultimate prize of the right to play in the AFL Grand Final. In Round 10, Hawthorn meets the North Melbourne Kangaroos in Launceston. Hawthorn and North Melbourne last met at Auroroa Stadium in 2011 in a thriller where Hawthorn ran away in the last ten minutes of the game to win by 17 points.
    4. Hawthorn v Port Adelaide - AFL There is nothing as exciting as a live game of football played at the top level, with superb athletes battling it out for the ultimate prize of the right to play in the AFL Grand Final. In Round 20, Hawthorn meets Port Adelaide in Launceston. Hawthorn will be hoping for a repeat of their performance when they last met Port in 2011 and thrashed them by a massive 165 points, Hawthorns largest winning margin ever.
    5. Launceston Eye Institute Run For A Wish This event is aimed at all members of the community, no matter what level of fitness or age and is raising money for Make-A-Wish® Australia. The main event will start and finish in the iconic Aurora Stadium and cover a scenic flat loop through beautiful Heritage Forest (6.4km). The children’s event, The Aurora Stadium Dash is a 400 metre run/walk and every child wins a medal. Put 22nd October in your diary now!
    6. Melbourne to Launceston Yacht Race The Melbourne to Launceston is the Grand Old Dame of Australian ocean races. She is the oldest ocean race in Australia and the fifth oldest on the face of the planet. The arduous race crosses Bass Strait AKA 'The Paddock’ which requires night sailing skills, navigation proficiency and stamina from the crews. Bass Strait is renowned as one of the toughest stretches of water anywhere. The number of wrecks dotting the islands and coastal areas are testament to this. Wikipedia says it all, 'Strong currents between the Antarctic-driven Southeast portions of the Indian Ocean and the Tasman Sea's Pacific Ocean waters, provide a strait of powerful, wild storm waves. To illustrate its wild strength, Bass Strait is both twice as wide and twice as rough as the English Channel.
