    1. Kids Paradise Kids Paradise, situated in Riverside, Launceston, is Tasmania’s largest indoor family and children’s playground. Refurbished and expanded in 2007 the centre is a favourite destination for families. Children can enjoy the pirate playground with slides and ball pits. There are interactive rooms that capture the imagination of younger children: Paris’ Deli, Rachelle’s Parlour and Lachie’s Travels. There is a huge outdoor slide connecting the top floor with the bottom floor. The bottom floor is geared more towards the older children with inflatable play and sports activities being played on a regular basis. Fitted in between the top two floors is The Hub which has been designed for all the tech-savvy – with an Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Guitar Hero.

    1. Cataract Gorge Reserve Cataract Gorge Reserve is a unique natural formation within two-minutes’ drive of central Launceston, Tasmania. The Gorge, as the locals call it, is a rare urban reserve. Within 15-minutes you can walk from the city centre along the banks of the Tamar River into The Gorge. You will follow a pathway along the cliff face, originally built in the 1890s, looking down onto the South Esk River. The Kings Bridge over The Gorge was floated into place in 1867. On the southern side is the First Basin, featuring a swimming pool and an open area surrounded by bushland.

    1. Launceston Basin Chairlift Launceston Basin Chairlift lets you view magnificent Cataract Gorge from above, located in northern Tasmania. Take in the spectacular features of Cataract Gorge from this single-span chairlift. View the South Esk River in a serene or turbulent mood after a flood as well as tree rhododendrons and fern glades.
    2. Pinot Shop Pinot Shop is located near Launceston’s central business district and waterfront, northern Tasmania. Pinot Shop specialises in the best of premium pinot noir as grown so beautifully in the cool climes of Tasmania, New Zealand and southern parts of the big Australian continent. This love for pinot extends to its sibling styles pinot gris and grigio and fizzy cousins sparkling wine and Champagne, even when they don’t contain pinot noir.
    3. The Mill Providore and Gallery The Mill Providore and Gallery showcases Tasmania’s fine foods, art works and handcrafted gifts. The Mill Providore and Gallery is located in the top two floors of a historic 1830s flour mill on the banks of the Tamar river, above Stillwater Restaurant.

    1. Franklin House Franklin House is convict built and located in northern Tasmania at Franklin Village, Launceston. Built by former convict and successful businessman Britton Jones, Franklin House is notable for its rich use of imported Australian Red Cedar. Extended to accommodate one of the colonies leading private schools which operated there from 1842 until 1866 the house finally became the birthplace of the National Trust in Tasmania in 1960. Franklin House survives with house, stables and garden. Nearby and also accessible is St James Church which was built in 1845 and has many associations with the House.
    2. Launceston Planetarium See the stars at the Launceston Planetarium in the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Tasmania. The Planetarium presents a variety of astronomy shows by projecting images of the southern night sky onto a domed ceiling, accompanied by additional effects and narration. The Planetarium projector, the heart of the system, reproduces all of the stars visible to the unaided eye from the southern hemisphere, and simulates the apparent motion of the stars as the earth rotates. Each programme runs for 25 to 30 minutes, followed by a talk describing the current sights of the Tasmanian night sky, showing the positions of the planets and constellations.
    3. Launceston Tramway Museum Launceston Tramway Museum is about a local Tasmanian community and the trams they used. The Museum evolved out of a restoration society in the 1990’s that restored Launceston's only surviving double bogie tram.
    4. National Automobile Museum of Tasmania The National Automobile Museum of Tasmania in Launceston features one of Australia’s most significant motoring collections. Spanning over one hundred years of style and technical achievement this impressive collection of traditional and contemporary automobiles is a must see for all those who appreciate history, design, engineering and style. The museum comes alive with four sensational theme displays each year as well as constantly changing exhibits in the main hall and a mezzanine floor packed with motorcycles. Along with over one hundred exhibits the museum features a unique gift shop with a magnificent range of merchandise that will delight people of all ages. Situated just one block from the city centre opposite Launceston’s beautiful City Park, a visit to The National Automobile Museum of Tasmania is an ideal way to spend a leisurely afternoon.
    5. Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG), in Launceston, is Australia's largest regional museum. QVMAG is Launceston's arts, cultural and creative heartbeat and gateway to local history and character. It enjoys a national profile for its collections of Australian colonial art, decorative arts and design, Tasmanian history and natural science.
    6. Richardsons Harley Davidson Museum and Cafe Richardsons Harley-Davidson Museum and Café showcases motorcycle memorabilia dating back to 1940 in Westbury, Tasmania. Simon Hrycyszyn (Richardson) is the driving force behind the museum and Tasmania’s oldest Harley-Davidson dealership. The museum contains interesting treasure including a 1900s pedal bike with a plate that reads ‘A.G. Flannery-Harley-Gallion Co,’ an extremely rare piece. Wander through the museum and enjoy stepping back in time with a 1940 ex Army Indian Scout and two J-model Harley-Davidsons. Donations from enthusiasts have assisted in the expansion of the museum. Learn about the history of the property, as Simon began in a workshop beneath his father’s house repairing motorcycles, before moving to a simple tin shed and later constructing the two-story building it is today. The building itself is worth a look, made primarily from recycled materials. The pre-owned parts section is built from Harley-Davidson bike crates, the flooring from telegraph poles and structural beams from wharf pylons. While you are in Westbury, wander through the quaint village, established in the 1820s as a garrison town. Visit the White House Museum, Westbury Maze and Pearn's world famous Steam World.

    1. Hollybank Forest Reserve Hollybank Forest Reserve is located at Rocherlea, just 30-minutes’ drive from Launceston, northern Tasmania. This is one of Tasmania's most popular picnic areas and has a distinctly European flavour. A 40-minute 'walk of change' passes through examples of Tasmania's major production forests types in a demonstration forest. Interpretive signs show how each forest type is harvested and regenerated. In autumn, exotic deciduous trees are a colourful contrast to the natives. Hollybank Forest Reserve is a place where the locals drop in for a barbecue or stay for the day to celebrate a special occasion.
    2. Tamar Island Wetlands Reserve and Interpretation Centre The Tamar Island Wetlands is a unique urban wetlands reserve ten minutes drive from Launceston. An outstanding Interpretation Centre offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the great value of the wetlands. The Tamar Island Wetlands are managed by the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service, with important assistance from Wildcare volunteers. The Interpretation Centre and the boardwalk to the island have easy wheelchair access and both the Centre and the island have disabled toilet facilities.
    3. Tasmania Zoo Tasmania Zoo is the state's only fully-accredited Zoo, near Launceston in Tasmania’s north. Set amongst extensive natural bushland, the zoo has Tasmania’s biggest collection of animals including the world’s largest private devil breeding program. You will come face to face with the world-famous Tasmanian Devils who assist research into the devil facial tumour disease. Witness these fascinating creatures live, at the devil feedings and interpretation times.

    1. Waverley Australia Waverley Australia is a woollen mill located just outside of Launceston, northern Tasmania. This woollen mill, established in 1874, is the oldest in Australia. It is located on the original site on the banks of Distillery Creek near the city of Launceston.

William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream A Midsummer Nights' Dream is a complex contraption that involves two couples (Hermia & Lysander and Helene & Demetrius) whose romantic cross-purposes are complicated further by their entrance into the play's fairyland woods. This is where the King and Queen of the Fairies (Oberon and Titania) preside and the impish folk character of Puck, or Robin Goodfellow, plies his trade. Another set of characters, Bottom the weaver and his bumptious band of "rude mechanicals" stumble into the main doings when they go into the same enchanted woods to rehearse a play that is very loosely (and comically) based on the myth of Pyramus and Thisbe, their hilarious home-spun piece taking up Act V of Shakespeare's comedy.

Hawthorn v Freemantle - AFL There is nothing as exciting as a live game of football played at the top level, with superb athletes battling it out for the ultimate prize of the right to play in the AFL Grand Final. In Round 8, Hawthorn meets the Freemantle Dockers in Launceston. Hawthorn will be hoping for a repeat of their performance when they last met the Dockers and won by 51 points.
    3. Hawthorn v North Melbourne - AFL There is nothing as exciting as a live game of football played at the top level, with superb athletes battling it out for the ultimate prize of the right to play in the AFL Grand Final. In Round 10, Hawthorn meets the North Melbourne Kangaroos in Launceston. Hawthorn and North Melbourne last met at Auroroa Stadium in 2011 in a thriller where Hawthorn ran away in the last ten minutes of the game to win by 17 points.

Hawthorn v Port Adelaide - AFL There is nothing as exciting as a live game of football played at the top level, with superb athletes battling it out for the ultimate prize of the right to play in the AFL Grand Final. In Round 20, Hawthorn meets Port Adelaide in Launceston. Hawthorn will be hoping for a repeat of their performance when they last met Port in 2011 and thrashed them by a massive 165 points, Hawthorns largest winning margin ever.
    5. Launceston Eye Institute Run For A Wish This event is aimed at all members of the community, no matter what level of fitness or age and is raising money for Make-A-Wish® Australia. The main event will start and finish in the iconic Aurora Stadium and cover a scenic flat loop through beautiful Heritage Forest (6.4km). The children’s event, The Aurora Stadium Dash is a 400 metre run/walk and every child wins a medal. Put 22nd October in your diary now!
    6. Melbourne to Launceston Yacht Race The Melbourne to Launceston is the Grand Old Dame of Australian ocean races. She is the oldest ocean race in Australia and the fifth oldest on the face of the planet. The arduous race crosses Bass Strait AKA 'The Paddock’ which requires night sailing skills, navigation proficiency and stamina from the crews. Bass Strait is renowned as one of the toughest stretches of water anywhere. The number of wrecks dotting the islands and coastal areas are testament to this. Wikipedia says it all, 'Strong currents between the Antarctic-driven Southeast portions of the Indian Ocean and the Tasman Sea's Pacific Ocean waters, provide a strait of powerful, wild storm waves. To illustrate its wild strength, Bass Strait is both twice as wide and twice as rough as the English Channel.
